Rho Flexible Ink

The flexible ink set is dedicated to the most versatile applications. Due to its ink film flexibility this ink set is most suitable for customers who like to print on flexible media
as well as rigid boards. This ink is predominately relevant to people who operate a Durst flatbed with a roll to roll printing option. The ink provides an excellent performance on a large variety of flexible media such as vinyls (e.g. Sattler), flag textiles (e.g. 3P IQ-IJ519), papers (e.g. Blue Back Paper) and Tyvek (e.g. DuPont). Similarly, the ink excels on a variety of rigid media as mentioned below. Typically a user of approx. 50% stiff and 50% flexible media would choose this type of ink.

Rho Rigid Ink

The Rigid Ink Set has the best adhesion on rigid board applications. Typically this ink is used for flatbed printers like Rho 600, Rho 700, and Rho 800 printing equipment.
It is designed for a wide range of board media such as soft foam boards (e.g. Kappa Plast), hard foam boards (e.g. Forex), polycarbonate (e.g. Lexan), acrylics (e.g. Plexiglas), metals (e.g. Dibond) and PVCs. The ink has also enough flexibility to be used on flexible media. Typically a user of approx. 70-80% stiff media (boards) and 20% flexible media (rolls) would choose this ink.

Rho Roll Ink

This ink set is the most  economic and technically optimized solution for flexible media printed on Rho roll to roll printing equipment like Rho 351R, Rho 320R or Rho 160R. It is optimized for fabrics, vinyls, and other flexible material such as  self adhesive foils/transparent films (e.g. 3M IJ 40-10R), papers (Blue Back Paper), Tyvek
(e.g. DuPont), flag fabrics (e.g. 3P IQ-IJ519) and Offset papers (e.g. Koehler, UPM). Of particular interest is the optimized black ink with a high density and very neutral black (no yellowish, reddish or brownish shape).

Rho Paper and Board Ink

The Paper and Board Ink is designed for paper applications. It is an economical solution for manufacturers of corrugated displays and other paper applications. The ink is designed to have the highest performance on coated papers as well as on highly absorbent papers such as Kraft and Test liner.

Rho thermo formable Ink

The Thermo-formable ink is a specially formulated ink set with high flexibility, heat resistance and adhesion on certain plastics, used in a thermo formable process,
like ABS, polyester, polypropylene. After the deformation over 90 deg. and of more than 10 cm, the printed area does not show any cracks.

Rho White Ink

Durst introduced in 2003 as first manufacturer white inks to print on colored substrates or transparent films with enhanced color gammuts. The CMYK printing process is based on subtractive color mixing supposed that the background is white. In case of use of colored substrates, the colors printed are erroneous, in many cases printing CMYK on a substrate with dominant colors results
impossible.
By printing a white background, mixing CMYK colors result in correct colors.
When transparent substrates are used a mirrored picture is printed on the back of the transparent substrate and white is printed as background. In case of such a “backlit” print the non printed side of the substrate will face the viewer.
The pigment used in white inks is Titanium Dioxide (TiO2), a pigment widely used because of its brightness and high refractive index, but  which shows two negative phenomena – sedimentation and reagglomeration - because of its molecular weight (sedimentation) and smaller pigment size (reagglomeration) with high hiding power. While sedimentation is a reversible physical phenomenon, reagglomeration is an irreversible  chemical process.
Durst prevents sedimentation by a patented ink circulation system while reagglomeration  is prevented applying appropriate technology in the ink dispersion formulation and ink manufacturing process.
White inks in Durst Rho Systems are cured at same curing speed as CMYK-inks and can be printed at the same pass and be processed at the same time as CMYK. No dual printing process is required.

Rho Varnish

The Rho Varnish is a UV-curable transparent ink lacquer to be inkjetted over the whole printed area or on selected parts of the print for highlighting. Rho Varnish has a
different viscosity and curing speed as pigmented inks thus to guarantee a uniform layer of glossy lacquer over printed area.
Rho varnish can be processed at same pass speed and at the same time as CMYK.

Ink booklet
At Drupa Durst will launch a 28-page Ink Booklet on their Rho inks, containing a lot of technical details about UV-curing inks, adhesion, adhesion tests, color gamut, and information on environmental and recycling issues.

The booklet can be requested at Durst

CMYKW

Durst is the first company in the world to supply the colour white in addition to the CMYK inks. A separate ink feeding system with an anti-sediment device makes it possible to print with white combined with CMYK.
