Quadro Array Technology

The core piece of every inkjet plotter are the printheads, the real Know How which determines the quality of the print lays within the packing density, this means the number of jets per head, the control of the firing impulse and frequency, the constancy of the drop flow and drop geometry and the precision of setting the dots exactly at the predefined place this is the Dot Size Control Technology of Quadro.

Therefore Durst developed the Quadro Array Technology which meets and combines all technical requirements. 1024 jet outlets per array guarantee the so far highest ever used packing density. The developed firing impulse electronic which effects every slot and controls dot size and form, the precision of the dot positioning, ink with constantly flowing temperature control and a degassing station (lung) within the ink line system meet the requirements of the dot size regulation. Quadro Array Technology achieves photographic quality with 600 dpi.

The printheads
The Durst Quadro printhead consists of four compact Spectra slots with 256 jet outlets which means a packing density of 1024 jet outlets per Quadro head.

The printheads

The Durst Quadro printhead consists of four compact Spectra slots with 256 jet outlets which means a packing density of 1024 jet outlets per Quadro head.
The highly precise fabrication of the carrier plate and the micro meter exact assembly of the slots results in equally spaced jet distances with an excellent straightness of the fluid coming out of the jets.
The compact and modular construction of the Durst Quadro print head makes the simple integration of several print heads in ink jet printers with different alignment arrangements possible, which can influence the resolution as well as the ink dot placement. This allows flexibility in the design of print head architecture.

The Durst Quadro reaches top quality of the print through outstanding constant drop volume at high constancy of the drop speed and drop form. Next to the above described electronic, the intelligent ink supply to the jet outlets designed by Durst is also part of the top quality print.

The ink is led through an ink inlet to the intermediate tank with an ink filter and an electronic standard monitoring system to a "lung" where it is degassed by an osmotic filter. It is heated in the ink lines within the print plates of the Quadros with high consistency and kept in motion and led to the Piezo print system. Lung and ink leading system in the Quadro head allow for an operation of the Piezo head of up to 20 KHz at high dependability and drop geometry consistency.

The jet head alignment is selected in a way, that the white print occurs simultaneously in one process step with the CMYK.

Ink supply
Ink is supplied in 5 l cubitainers environmentally friendly, a stick and tip seal makes a refill during printing possible without getting in touch with the ink.

Ink supply

Next to the CMYK ink supply Durst is the first company in the world that also supplies the color "White". A separate ink supply system with anti sedimentation system makes a white print in combination with CMYK possible.

Transport mechanism
The Rho 1000 is designed for the print of stiff and semi flexible plates with a thickness of up to 40 mm ( in the industrial model up to 70 mm).

Transport mechanism

An additional motorized roll to roll system makes the print of flexible material with a roll diameter of up to 30 cm possible. The plates are passed to the print system through stable, at the main device fixable tables and transported precise and sensor controlled by a seamless conveyor belt using regulated under pressure.

UV ink
A UV curable ink, which hardens through UV lamps, developed by Durst is used for the printing.

UV ink

Viscosity, surface tension and UV light absorption, wave length are balanced with each other in a way, that the optimal curing and optimal adhesion on most possible variations of material is guaranteed.

Durst offers 5 system ink sets, whereas for the Rho 1000 the Rho Rigid Board Ink is recommended:
Rho ink rigid set
- ink for stiff material, which normally show a bad adhesions such as metals, acrylics, polycarbonate or glass. Rho ink rigid reaches on usually not printable material by the cross hatch test the highest adhesion evaluation.
Durst delivers next to the traditional CMYK inks, white pigmented ink, which can be used as background, spot color, filler or as covering color on inverse transparent prints.

Software
The Rho 1000 is equipped with the latest developed Workflow SW with True Touch Screen operation.

Software

All job preparation actions are done on an external RIP-station, which allows ripping, nesting, batch ripping, colour correction and a variety of other controls.
The printer operational software is based on LINUX and allows for all printing parameters and machine controls including the regulation of UV intensity, control of ink consumption, job queuing and monitoring.
The user can select different modes depending on print media and demand on colour density and print quality.
The machine also offers a backlit mode, which automatically applies double the amount of ink in one pass for applications requiring this desired density.

Skip White function
The image to be printed is scanned and the print carriage moves only to those parts of the image where printing is required. By this function the productivity, especially in case of prints with large white areas, increases considerably.

Modularity
The Rho 1000 is of course modular as well as retrofit built: from CMYK to integrated light colours, white print and spot colors.

Modularity

Rho 1000 is not just a device - it is a system, which is expandable with the business possibilities of the client. A system that you do not want to leave because you can count on Durst.
